As a corporate commitment to employee wellness, Lauren International is starting the year with a new initiative – the Biggest Loser Challenge. Modeled after the popular television series on NBC, the Biggest Loser Challenge is a weight-loss competition designed to motivate employees to achieve their optimum weight at both the New Philadelphia and Cambridge campuses.
The program, which launched on March 1st, runs through July 2nd and offers incentives that benefit both the winners and the local communities. The 164 participants, representing 43% of Lauren International's workforce, are competing to win cash prizes at the team and individual levels. Additionally, for every pound lost by a Lauren International employee, the company has committed to donating one pound of food to local food banks in the New Philadelphia and Cambridge areas.
According to Jim Hummel, Lauren International's Vice President of Human Resources, the Biggest Loser Challenge emphasizes two of the company's objectives employee wellness and community service. "Our first priority is to help our employees achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle," states Hummel. In addition to offering monetary prizes, the company has hired outside resources including a registered dietician, nurse and trainer to help employees meet their weight loss goals. "Lauren has always offered a wide variety of wellness programs, but we understand it often takes specialists and coaches to make a permanent life change," he added.
As for the food bank donations, Hummel said it is just one of many ways Lauren International continues to support the local communities. "By matching the aggregate weight loss with contributions to food pantries in both New Philadelphia and Cambridge, we can measure our success pound for pound, and help those in need along the way."
At the conclusion of the Biggest Loser Challenge, final weigh-ins will be calculated and overall winners will be announced based on the largest total percentage of weight loss. Following the announcement, cash awards will be presented to the top three male and female individuals and top three teams. Lauren International's donations to the food banks will be presented shortly thereafter.
